We are proud to introduce our new English Café concept!

Do you also want to be more aware of the world outside of Japan, by talking about other countries’ cultures and having English speaking guests talking about their experiences in Japan?
Then you should definitely come and join us! We are looking forward to seeing you 😉

By the way, my name is Léo, and I come from France, and for the first English Café session, I’d like to talk to you about my country!
Here is a brief summary of the mains topics of the first session:

I.INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT, TALKING ABOUT FRANCE

1.Introduction, and talking about the concept of the session
2.What is France? What are the most famous places and features?
3.What kind of image of France do you have?
4.Avoid the stereotypes: what France ACTUALLY is!
5.Talking about the image Japanese have of French people (including stereotypes too!)

Whats English Café

Objective / Concept:
Support, Encourage, Entertain
All the English Schools kinda do the exact same thing, so we want to bring something new.
We want Japanese people to be more confident and to have fun speaking in English.
We also want them to be more aware of the world outside of Japan, by telling them about other countries’ cultures, and having English speaking guests to talk about their experience in Japan.

Plan:
Each session is one hour (during the meeting we talked about one hour, but let me know if you want to make it two 😉 )
Each point will be about 5-10 mins long. It will all depend on how much the students will participate. So this plan is more like a global idea/theme for the whole lesson, but I want to leave room for some freedom, like for example let someone talk about his experience.
In other words: I will not be the center of attention, I want everyone to participate and feel like a group without any 上下関係

Guests:
Rina-san: for probably most of the sessions, and she will play a major part during the Australia one.
Katarina (Katie): I think she will be glad to come and talk about her experience in Japan
Whats members: it would be better to have some members at the end to talk and promote the next event for example
Other Guests are yet to be decided
INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT, TALKING ABOUT FRANCE

1.Introduction (Name, Age, Occupation, Objective, Reason why you came here, your level in English), talking about the concept of the session, make them write their name on a paper for everyone to see
2.What is France? Where is it? What’s the Capital? What are the most famous places and features?
3.What kind of image of France do you have?
4.Avoid the stereotypes: what France ACTUALLY is! (by a French person: me! 笑)
5.Talking about the image Japanese have of French people (including stereotypes too!)
6.Impressions about the class, questions, free talk

FOREIGNERS IN JAPAN: THE JAPANESE SIDE

2.What is your experience with Gaijin in Japan? Give us one example
3.What do you think they do right?
4.What do you think they do wrong?
5.How can we help them improve?
6.Impressions about the class, questions, free talk

FOREIGNERS IN JAPAN: THE GAIJIN SIDE

1.Introduction

5.Talking about the image Japanese have of Australian people (including stereotypes too!)
6.Impressions about the class, questions, free talk
7. Next lesson: ask them what song they would like to study (maybe prepare 3-5 choices and let them pick. A popular song like Frozen’s “Let it Go” could be good)

THE POWER OF MUSIC

1.Introduction, talking about the song (its story, the singer, etc.)
2.A song’s lyrics: listen to a song (2 times)
